Teaching Philosophy

My goal as an educator is to use my classroom as a safe learning environment for my students to develop their own thoughts and begin to ask their own questions. As Socrates stated, “Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” Using this approach, I want to be the facilitator in the classroom and guide students to learn from their own experiences, the experiences of others, and begin to formulate their own thoughts and questions. I will encourage hands-on activities and group work within my classroom to help encourage communication with other learners. I will work to provide a caring and comfortable environment for my students, so they feel safe to communicate with myself and others. It is important that my students feel responsible for their own education as I provide them with the tools and guidance to learn all that they can.
